Can Technology Replace Teachers?

Just recently, we have walked out of the pandemic. When the pandemic was at its peak, the education sector saw a major transition. Schools had to shut down abruptly to avoid in-person contact and prevent further spread of the virus. The only way out was to float online lessons so that deprivation of education could be prevented.

Today, schools have gone back to operating the way they used to earlier; the only difference being there is a presence of technological support now, which was not a case in the pre-COVID era. However, as one of the top CBSE schools in Noida Sector 51, parents often ask us at LPS Global School, if technology is fast-replacing teachers. That is exactly what we would be looking at today.

What’s our students take?

As children moved from online to offline mode of learning, we went on to ask them, if they were happy to function in absence of a teacher, with technology taking care of all their learning needs.

Here, we got a rather unanimous reply from all our students, who said that teachers are irreplaceable because they would never want to be deprived of human interaction. Also, another great point brought up by them was the fact that the very reason they could familiarize themselves with how the technology worked is because teachers went out of the way to aid them with the process.

Hence, it is safe to state that even though technology makes life easier for learners, it can never take away the position and value of a teacher.

Can technology offer real-time answers and pay individual attention?

We at the LPS Global School would like to bring to the attention of all the readers that the pace at which every student learns is different. Moreover, the inquisitive souls that children are, they often ask multiple questions through the process of learning, which helps aid their understanding.

Coming to technology, it is impossible for this mechanism to adjust its pace in line with the requirements of the student on the other side. Above all, if at all any question crosses the mind of a student, he or she will have to note it down and get it answered later. This isn’t a problem in the case of teachers who do not just pay individual attention, but also attend to questions then and there.

Can technology offer a personal touch?

Child therapists lay immense emphasis on the need for attention when it comes to ensuring better understanding and learning on the child’s part. This is something, which isn’t immediately possible for technology to achieve.

Even though the technology is capable of streamlining and giving a push to the way in which learning takes place, it can never replace human interaction. Teachers usually strike conversations and pay attention to individual child needs, which ultimately ensures comfort, trust, improved levels of concentration, and higher attention span.

Can technology initiate dialogues?

We at LPS Global School, positioned among the top CBSE schools in Noida Sector 51, firmly believe that learning is a two-way process. When a teacher is delivering a lecture in class, it involves question and answer sessions, where the concept is made clear not just by parting with information, but also by gaining insights from the students.

This two-way communication is something that doesn’t become possible in the case of technology-aided learning, which is why it wouldn’t be wise to compare technology with teachers.

Can technology offer support beyond education?

Even though teachers have a foremost role to play in assisting with the process of learning, they have an even bigger role to play beyond academics. Wondering how? Well, in today’s date, children get stressed out easily. Mental unease has become a common scenario. This is something that teachers can actually help the students with by recognizing well-being issues among children, speaking with them, getting to know the cause of unease, and offering a solution. Here again, technology cannot step into the shoes of a teacher, which means both can never operate interchangeably.

Final Thoughts:

If the question, “Can teachers be replaced by technology?” is making rounds in your head, then we would like to introduce you to reality. As we all know, teachers mold and shape students not just to sail through the school years, but also to create a worthwhile life after stepping out of school.

There is no denying that technology is boosting the way in which children learn. However, such learning is both difficult and impossible in the absence of a teacher. Thus we, at LPS Global School, one of the top CBSE schools in Noida Sector 51, would like to put it straight – Technology cannot replace teachers, but yes, it does complement teaching.

After all, it is the teachers who familiarize children with the functioning of technology, its overall usage, and the ways in which it can be used to optimize learning. Hence, it is safe to conclude that teachers and technology operate hand-in-hand.
