The Learning Model

LPS Learning Model

LPS Global School uses the classical ‘Do-Feel-Learn-Reflect-Be’ model. This model recommends the formulation of teaching methods based on the following:

DO: The student must participate in activities that are designed to initiate the classical learning response.

FEEL: The activity triggers certain emotions and sensations that form the basis of the learning process.

LEARN: The outcomes of the ‘Do-Feel’ stages result in learning. Such learning is lasting and replicable since the student simply has to re-create the do feel sequence to trigger the learning response all over again.

REFLECT: Once learning has taken place, the child naturally reflects about ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’ and ‘Why’ and ‘How’ etc.

BE: Once the reflection is complete, the students are able to apply the knowledge in their lives and that is precisely ‘what being’ is all about. Most of early childhood learning in the school is based on this ‘Do-Feel-Learn-Reflect-Be’ model.

Let us illustrate this with an example:

A child enters his mother’s kitchen and sees a pot of water boiling on the stove. His natural curiosity is aroused. He reaches out and touches the pot-“Do”. He experiences a burning sensation-“Feel”. He realizes that he must not touch anything on the stove again and also understands why his mother tells him to stay out of the kitchen-“Learn”. He realises the gravity of the situation and internalises the outcomes of the consequences-“Reflection”. Through this learning and consequent reflection, he becomes a more evolved person-“Be”.
